I posted this a long time ago without ever trying it. I finally decided to try it and it was delicious! Its just like the name of the recipe suggests. It's a soft gooey caramel that is baked with the french toast.
topping:
1 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup butter
2 tablespoons light corn syrup
1/3 c. heavy whipping cream
1 cup chopped pecans, optional
8 slices French bread
3 eggs
1/2 cups milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
pinch salt
Caramel Sauce
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup butter
1 tablespoon light corn syrup
Spray 13x9 baking dish
In medium saucepan, combine topping ingredients and mix well.
Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until smooth.
DO NOT BOIL! pour into baking dish. spread nuts over topping if desired
beat eggs , milk, vanilla , salt, dip bread into egg mixture until egg is all gone. and place over topping in pan. cook immediately or you can refrigerate overnigth making it taste better.
cook 400 degree 20-25 min. let stand 2 minutes after cooking then invert. If you feel the need for more sause make the caramel sauce above in saucepan and drizzle over (I didn't make the caramel sauce because their seemed to be the perfect amount baked with the french toast).

tried it and loved it. I didn't do the sauce on top either. My kids begged me to make it again for days.
