Iskiate

If you've read the book Born to Run you will know about this drink.  It actually tastes really good and the chia seeds are so packed with omega's, protein and antioxidants that give you extra energy.

From Macheesmo

4 c. water
2 limes juice only
1/4 c. raw chia seeds
1/4 c. agave, honey or sugar

Add the lime juice and water to a small sauce pan and let it heat up. Once it is steaming (no need to boil it) add in all the chia seeds. Stir them up really well. They might stick together some, but that’s okay.

Simmer for a few minutes and then add the agave nectar and continue to stir it.
Stir this all together really well for a minute or two and then stick it all in the fridge to cool down.

Once the drink is cool, you’ll notice that most of the seeds have settled and all the seeds are partially dissolved.

Wassail Drink Mix

This is hands down the best wassail I have had.  And it is so easy without making tons of it.  It has just the right amount of orange, lemon and spice to it! Makes my mouth water just thinking about it!

1 c. tang
1 pkg. unsweetened lemonade kool aid
2 1/2 c. sugar
2 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. ground cloves

Throughly combine ingredients.  To serve individual cups, stir 2 TBLS. mix into 1 cup hot water.  For large groups, stir 1 cup mix into 8 cups water in warm crockpot.  Garnish with cinnamon sticks and orange slices pierced with cloves.

Homemade Root Beer

It is my husbands family tradition to make homemade root beer every year for the fourth of july bbq.  We have made it a few times this summer as well.  It is so much better than the store bought stuff!

5 pounds sugar or 1-4 pound bag sugar +2 cups (since you can't find the 5 pound bags of sugar any more, use )
5-7 pounds dry ice (only found at Fred Meyer in our area)
1 bottle McCormick root beer extract (found at Albertsons)
5 gallons water after everything else is added

Mix all ingredients in a 5 gallon drink cooler, break up dry ice a little by dropping it on the sidewalk.  Make sure you do not touch the dry ice with your bare hands or it will burn you.  Place cooler outside, it will bubble over and get whatever you place it on sticky.  Put all dry ice in and let it bubble and get cool, usually about an hour.

Caramel Apple Cider

Here are 2 different recipes for caramel apple cider, yum-O!

INDIVIDUAL SERVING:
1 1/2 cups apple cider
1 1/2 tablespoons caramel ice cream topping
1/2 teaspoon vanilla

PARTY SIZE:
1 gallon apple cider
1 cup caramel ice cream topping
5 teaspoons vanilla

Stir ingredients together and heat through.

Family Fun's Caramel Apple Cider
To make the cider you need:
1/4 cup heavy cream
1/4 cup brown sugar
3 cups apple cider
1/2 cup water

For the Whipped Cream Topping (a 95% must have) you need:
1/2 cup heavy cream
1 tablespoon brown sugar

Directions: Cider:
Combine cream and brown sugar in a medium saucepan and bring to a boil over medium heat. Add the cider and water, stir, and raise the heat to medium-high. Heat only until the cider starts to steam (about 4 minutes), stirring almost continually.

Prepare the whipped cream.

Directions: Whipped Cream:
Chill a bowl and beaters for easier whipping. Whip the heavy cream and brown sugar together until soft peaks form.

That's it. You're done. Caramel Apple Cider only tastes like it took you hours to prepare.

Okay, you're not completely finished; you have to pour or ladle the Caramel Apple Cider into mugs and top each mug with about 2 tablespoons of whipped cream. Actually, I prefer the one tablespoon for you, three for me serving ratio.

24 whole cloves
4 cups orange juice
2 cups pineapple juice
9 thick orange slices, cut in half (optional)

To serve, strain cider mixture and pour into a warmed pitcher or slow cooker. Place orange slices in slow cooker or one in each heatproof cup and serve.
